Lesson I.1

 

Warm-Up I.1:  

     Think back to your childhood to a time when you were most frighten of a monster/scary story.  Write a 3 - 5 sentence description of your monster and draw a picture of said monster.

Homework I.1:

     Write five sentences, underline all nouns, circle all pronouns.  Topic must be school appropriate.

Lesson I.2

 

Warm-Up I.2:  

     Write 5 - 7 sentences about your favorite holiday experience.  This could be a holiday movie you saw when you were little, a tradition you have with your family (every year my family and I watch A Christmas Story at least twice, and Elf), a gift you were really hoping Santa would bring you, etc.  Topics must be school appropriate. 

 

Classwork I.2:

     Take Notes:

  • Continue discussing the "Mothman" research projectMothman_Evidence.pdf
  • Read the news article "That Mothman: Would You Believe A Sandhill Crane?"
  • Students complete a K-W-L for summarizing the article and explain their thoughts on the article

 

Homework I.2:

     Write five sentences, underline all verbs, circle all adverbs.  Topic must be school appropriate.

     Create a Frayer model describing the word, "Support."

  • Continue and finish the "Mothman" assignmentMothman_Evidence.pdf
  • Read the article "Mason Bird-Monster Presumed Gone Now"
  • Complete K-W-L summarizing the article and their own thoughts on the article
  • Have students collect all of their information together ask them to provide a one sentence claim as to whether or not the Mothman exists

     Write five sentences, underline all adjectives, circle all conjunctions.  Topic must be school appropriate.

Lesson I.4

 

Warm-Up I.4:  

     Write 5 - 7 sentences describing your hopes and dreams as you enter Hogwarts for your first year of school.  Describe the school you would be in, what classes you would be most excited for, what adventures you would have as a wizard, etc.  Content must be school appropriate. 

 

Classwork I.4:

     Take Notes:

  • Students are to work on an Annotated Bibliography for their essay on the Mothman Mothman_Evidence.pdf
  • Students write an argumentative essay describing their stance on whether or not the Mothman is real 

 

Homework I.4:

     Write five sentences, include and circle a preposition in each.

Lesson I.5

 

Warm-Up I.5:  

     Describe in a five-panel comic what your favorite monster is.  Provide a description of your monster and where you first got to know about your monster.

  • Annotated Bibliography due
  • Students finish their essays on if the Mothman is real in class

 

Closure I.5:

     Staple homework and warm-ups together, put your name, date, and class period on both sides of every sheet.  Turn sheets into your class section.
