Lesson 4.1

 

Warm-Up 4.1:  

     Draw and fill out a Frayer Model for the term, "Inspiration."  Frayer sections will include "Definition," "Examples," "Illustration," and "Sentence."

 

Classwork 4.1: 

     Discuss how to fill out Frayer Models

     Talk about role models and heroes.

     Download the following apps: Evernote, Skitch, Pureflow, Draftpad, Mad Libs, Word Monsters, & Doodle Hangman

     Introduce: http://www.rocketboysfestival.com/2014_aiming_high_essay_contest

     Brainstorm the difference between good inspiration and bad inspiration.

 

Homework 4.1:

Lesson 4.2

 

Warm-Up 4.2:  

     Draw and fill out two Frayer Models, one for the term, "Good," and one for the term, "Bad."

 

Classwork 4.2:

     Discuss good and bad role models.

 

     Who inspires you to be good, or better, and how do they do it.

 

     Introduce Rocket Boys Essay Contest.

 

     Begin writing essay - 500 words.

 

Homework 4.2:

     Write five sentences with an adverb and a preposition in each.  Circle your adverbs, underline your prepositions.

Lesson 4.3

 

Warm-Up 4.3:

     Doodle your greatest role model, write 3 - 5 sentences telling who they are and how they inspire you.

 

Classwork 4.3:

     Begin working on Rocket Boys Essay.

 

Homework 4.3:

     Draw a 5 frame comic of you meeting your role model.  Write a sentence for each frame.

Lesson 4.4

 

Warm-Up 4.4:  

     Draw and fill out a Frayer model for the term, "Summarize."  Use a dictionary or dictionary website to find the definition.

 

Classwork 4.4:

     30 - 45 second oral presentations summarizing how our essays are coming.

 

     Students complete essays.

 

     Students proofread each others' essays.

 

Homework 4.4:

     Write three sentences with eight different parts of speech in each.

Lesson 4.5

 

Warm-Up 4.5:  

     Analyze, in 5 - 7 sentences: why do we want you inspired by good role models?  What do we want you to accomplish in life?

 

Exam 4.5:

 

     Finish and print Rocket Boys essay.

 

Closure 4.5:

     Staple homework and warm-ups together, put your name, date, and class period on both sides of every sheet.  Turn sheets into your class section.
