 Lesson 1.1

 

Warm-Up 1.1:  

     What did you learn in writing class last year?  Write 5 - 7 sentences.  If you did not learn anything in writing class, write about your summer.

 

Classwork 1.1:

     Fill out an index card with your information, so if you spontaneously combust, we can totally tell someone:

  • Name (Last Name, First Name)
  • Class Period 
  •  Address
  • Parent's/Guardian's names and phone numbers
  • Do you have internet access at home? 
  • Class Schedule (on back)

 

Discuss Classroom Procedures.

  • How to enter the classroom
  • How to sit in a desk
  • How to sharpen a pencil
  • How to ask for a sheet of paper
  • How to do a warm-up
  • How to do classwork
  • How to take a test 

 

Homework 1.1:

     Write Mr. Doyle a letter telling him about yourself and how you plan to do this school year.  Do not write that you are planning to do poorly.  You're going to be a bright, hard-working student.  Tell Mr. Doyle that, that is the correct answer.

  • Who are you?
  • What are you interested in?
  • What do you like about writing?
  • What do you dislike about writing?
  • What is your favorite color?
  • Do you have a family? (if you were raised by wolves, please explain)
  • What is your favorite monster?  (Mr. Doyle likes zombies)

Lesson 1.2

 

Warm-Up 1.2:  

     Do you like writing letters?  If you do not like writing letters, how else do you feel you could express yourself?  Write 5 - 7 sentences, or write 3 - 5 sentences and draw a picture (picture must be relevant to your paragraph).

 

Classwork 1.2:

Closure 1.3:

     Staple homework and warm-ups together, put your name, date, and class period on both sides of every sheet.  Turn sheets into your class section.

Lesson 1.4

 

Warm-Up 1.4:  

     How did you spend your weekend?  Write a three frame comic strip with a minimum of one sentence per frame.

     Come up with five test questions based off of your notes.  Use complete sentences.

Lesson 1.5

 

Warm-Up 1.5:  

     Why do we test to see if you understand things?  Write 5-7 sentences.

     Students will be tested on classroom procedures.

 

Homework 1.5:

     If you were going to make your own test on classroom procedures, how would you make it?  Write 5 - 7 sentences.

Lesson 1.6

 

Warm-Up 1.6:  

     Come up with a list of five things you could do with: duct tape, shoe laces, and aluminum foil.  This does not have to be in complete sentences.

 

Exam 1.6:

     Students will take notes on how to take notes and number the pages of their composition books.

 

Homework 1.6:

     Write and illustrate a five frame comic about what would happen if you found a mysterious, ten pound egg.
